The Pratt Library's Comic Con

  • Southeast Anchor Branch 3601 Eastern Ave Baltimore, MD, 21224 United States (map)

On July 20, 2015, the Southeast Anchor Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, MD, is kicking off their Summer Theme of "Heroes" by hosting its first ever Mini Comic Con. Come join cosplayers, artists, and readers of all ages as we celebrate comics and reading.

Come early! Younger patrons can create their own superhero capes and masks. There will also be panel discussions on Cosplay, Women in Comics, and How to Break into the Comic/Writing Industry. AWA will host three classes throughout the day that center on creating dynamic characters based on random vocabulary words (Drawing Word Game),  acquainting children with sequential art (Intro to Comic Book Creation) and inspiring kids to make their own cartoons (The Bouncing Ball - Basic Animation).

Check back for more updates as we get closer to the event date! With artists like Jerry and Penelope Gaylord and John Sazaklis, it's sure to be an event you won't want to miss.

At 1:00 AWA will hold onto "From Concept to Completion: An Intro to Comic Book Creation/ the Art of Penciling, Inking, Coloring and Lettering Class." From start to finish, this is a step by step class in making comics. From coming up with ideas, to scripting, penciling, inking, colors, and lettering/design. There are many steps in making a comic book, and in this class students will learn everything from concept development to penciling to coloring. Local writer/creator Jordan Clark and artist Kofi Simmons will also discuss their own process, and help students work in groups to create their own one to two page comic.
