We're joining the Museum of Science Fiction and attending the first ever Escape Velocity - a micro futuristic world fair that aims to promote STEAM education within the context of science fiction. Using the fun of comic cons and science/engineering festivals, this event seeks to positively impact on informal learning. 

Art Way Alliance will be there helping participants of all ages employ established art techniques to create innovative worlds, machines, and other science fiction visual elements. We have a LOT of workshops over the weekend that you just don't want to miss! Get your tickets now! 

FRIDAY

1:00 PM - An Indie Comics Writing Workshop - Enrica Jang of Red Stylo Media teaches participants how to make comics on their own terms. This one hour discussion explains what is neededto start, complete, and even publish their own stories.

3:00 PM - Designing a Sci-fi Hero - Learn basic character designing tips from Paolo Galang to create your own original sci-fi hero. Learn basic anatomy and see how certain design elements can make a character fit in or stand out from his or her environment. 

5:00 PM - How to Design a Picture Book Character - Bryan Tillman of Kaiser Studio Productions teaches children the basic steps of creating a character for story books. From fish on land to cows in space, any type of character is possible! 

SATURDAY

11:00 AM - The Basics of Animation - Bring your sci-fi ideas to life by learning the basics of animation with Jimmy Horner

1:00 PM - Drawing Characters with S.T.E.A.M. - Using the theme of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, Darren Soto teaches participants how to design original characters. Students leave with an understanding of basic character design and how simple themes can create constantly create awesome characters.  

3:00 PM - Designing a Sci-fi Villain - Brittany Pate of ScribbleNeatly teach students how to make your "bad guy" into a true villain. 

5:00 PM - The Art of Forging Giant Mechas & Robots - This one hour workshop teaches participants how to differentiate mechas from robots and how to create their own. By the end of the hour, students will have created their own mecha, starting from concept sketch to finished product and will be able to repeat the process their own. Robert Spencer of Bad Dream Comics instructs.

SUNDAY

10:00 AM - A Hero to Believe in - Enrica Jang from Red Stylo Media teaches students what makes a heroic character and how to create a story that shows off their character's true heroism.

12:00 PM - The Art of Manga: Composing Scene Design in Sequential Art - Andrew Smart of Call That Art leads a workshop that shows how to compose a complete image in sequential art. Instruction will focus on scene design, angles, tone, composition, composition, and traditional art-making essentials. 

2:00 PM - Bringing Your Toys to LIfe: Tips on Stop Motion - Use toys and a phone camera to create your own animated film. Jake Heagy's workshop tutorial will teach the basic techniques used to create movies like Boxtrolls and Nightmare Before Christmas
